OLIVET, Mich. – Olivet College freshman defender Kyle Cupp (Otsego) has earned Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Defensive Player of the Week honors for men's soccer.
Cupp played a key role for the Comets, as they won three games last week. His defensive efforts helped Olivet come back from a 4-0 deficit to beat Calvin College, 6-5, in its MIAA opener. Cupp also added an assist against the Knights. He started both games of the Alma-Olivet Classic. In the Comets' 3-0 win over Hanover (Ind.) College, Cupp scored the first two goals on headers.
"Kyle had a fantastic week, especially his performance in the Calvin match" said Olivet Head Men's Soccer Coach Chad Wiseman. "He is a big, physical presence that demands attention of opposing teams. Kyle's ability to dominate in the air was very helpful during our competitions."
Olivet, who enters the week with a 6-0-1 record, will play two road MIAA contests, beginning tomorrow at 4 p.m. against Albion College. On Saturday night, the Comets will battle Hope College at 7 p.m.
