Olivet College men’s golf team set to host Lou Collins Memorial Tournament
The Olivet College men’s golf team will open its 2012 season Friday and Saturday, Aug. 31-Sept. 1 by hosting the 2012 Lou Collins Memorial Golf Tournament at the Bedford Valley Country Club.
OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College men's golf team will open its 2012 season Friday and Saturday, Aug. 31-Sept. 1 by hosting the 2012 Lou Collins Memorial Golf Tournament at the Bedford Valley Country Club.
In its 17th year of existence, the tournament is one of the largest small college golf tournaments. There will be 15 teams vying for the championship this year. The tournament field is made up of two schools each from Illinois, Indiana and Ohio, and the other nine from Michigan. Seven of the teams are NCAA Division III affiliates, seven are members of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics and one is a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association.
Calvin College won the team championship in 2011 for the first time. The Comets have won the team championship on their home course five times, most recently in 2010. Other defending team champions in this year's field are Hope College (1999, 2000, 2003, 2005); Indiana Wesleyan University (2009) and Trine (Ind.) University (1997).
Friday's round features tee times for all 15 schools, with the first one being at 10 a.m. Olivet's first tee times are slated for 1 p.m. Saturday's round will get underway with an 8 a.m. shotgun start. All of Friday's tee times are in this document, and the tournament website can be viewed here.
