Marlene Packer, Softball

OLIVET, Mich. – Olivet College junior softball player Marlene Packer, of Grand Rapids and Creston High School is the Comet of the Week for April 16-22.

Packer helped Olivet win two Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) games last week. She started the week with a double in five plate appearances against Calvin College April 17. In a doubleheader at league leader Trine (Ind.) University April 19, Packer had a double to score the only two runs in the first game. She ended her week by going 5-for-7 in the Comets’ wins against Albion College April 21. Packer had a double, while driving in four runs in the first game.

For the week, Packer posted a .412 batting average to raise her season average to .323. This season, she has started every game at second base, with only six errors in 145 chances for a .959 fielding percentage. Packer also has five doubles, one triple and one home run for a .430 slugging percentage, as well as 13 runs scored and 15 RBI.

The Comets will conclude their season Saturday when they travel to Holland for a doubleheader against Hope College. First pitch from game one at Wolters Stadium is scheduled for 1 p.m.
