Olivet College to induct three into Athletic Hall of Fame

OLIVET, Mich. -- Olivet College will induct three new members, Robert Condon, David Price and Brian Robinette, into its Athletic Hall of Fame Friday, Oct. 28. They will be formally inducted into the Hall of Fame at a dinner Oct. 28 at The Cutler Event Center and then recognized at halftime of the Comets’ football game versus Trine (Ind.) University Oct. 29 at 1 p.m.

Condon, a 1976 graduate of Olivet, earned three letters in cross country and four letters in track at Olivet. In track, he was a four-time All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) selection, including the league’s Most Valuable Performer in 1976. Condon was the MIAA champion in the 440-yard run in 1973, 1974 and 1976, and the 880-yard run in 1975. He was also a part of the conference champion mile relay in 1973 and 1976. Condon still holds the MIAA record in all three events.

In addition, Condon finished in seventh-place in the 400-meter run at the 1976 NCAA Division III National Championships. He also holds the school record in 400- and 800-meter runs at 48.00 and 1:53.24, respectively. Condon was a tri-captain on the track and field teams in 1975 and 1976. During his four-year collegiate career, he was undefeated in 24 dual meets and all four conference championship meets.

After graduating from Olivet, Condon moved to Miami University, where he was a graduate assistant in the health and physical education department and volunteer coach with the men’s track and cross country programs. While there, Condon earned a master’s degree in 1977. He then served as head women’s cross country/track and field coach at Hillsdale College (1977-78), head women’s track and field/head men’s and women’s cross country coach at University of Nebraska-Omaha (1978-87), assistant men’s cross country/track and field coach at Miami (1987-93) and head men’s and women’s cross country/track and field coach at Gettysburg (Pa.) College (1993-2004). While at Gettysburg, Condon was named the 2002 NCAA Division III Mideast Region Track and Field Coach of the Year and was a finalist for national coach of the year.

In 2003, Condon became owner of Mason-Dixon Properties, LLC. He was also owner of Molly Maid Residential Cleaning Service from 2004-06. In 2006, Condon added the title reverse mortgage specialist at M&T Bank to his duties.

Condon resides in Westminster, Md.

Price graduated from Olivet in 1968 with a bachelor’s degree in secondary education. He earned three letters in football and served as a team captain in 1966 and 1967. Price was also a member of the Adelphic Alpha Pi fraternity.

For more than 40 years, Price has been in the education field. Upon graduating from Olivet, He was a teacher and coach in Muscatine, Iowa, from 1968-70. Price returned to Michigan and became a teacher and assistant coach at Burr Oak High School from 1970-72. From there, he served as teacher, head football, head softball and assistant wrestling coach at Stevensville Lakeshore High School from 1972-84.

Price then decided to enter the leadership ranks, serving as the athletic director at Concord (Ind.) High School from 1984-89, Rockford High School from 1989-2001, Caledonia High School from 2001-03, Olivet College from 2003-05, Wyoming Schools from 2005-10 and Plainwell High School from 2010 to present.

Price has served on many Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) sport committees. He has also received numerous awards for his accomplishments over the years, including induction into the Rockford High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 2004. Price earned a master’s degree in educational leadership from Western Michigan University in 1975.

He lives in Plainwell with wife, Randi (Nelson), a 1970 Olivet graduate. They have three children and 10 grandchildren.

Robinette graduated from Olivet in 1994 with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. He was a four-year letterwinner on the men’s golf team and helped the Comets win four straight MIAA championships.

Robinette was a three-time first-team All-MIAA selection (1990, 1991 and 1993). In addition, he posted the league’s best stroke average all three years to earn MIAA medalist honors. An injury prevented Robinette from competing in the required rounds during the 1992 season.

A captain during his senior year, Robinette became the first golfer in school history to earn All-American honors with an eighth-place finish at the 1994 NCAA Division III National Championships. The finish allowed Olivet to place 10th as a team.

After graduating from Olivet, Robinette moved back to his hometown, Escanaba, where he has served as an English teacher at the middle school for the last 16 years. During his time there, Robinette has also been an eighth grade basketball coach all 16 years and assistant middle school track coach for four years. Robinette became the boys’ and girls’ varsity golf coach in 2010-11, leading the Eskymo boys’ team to the 2011 MHSAA Division I Upper Peninsula championship.
